The store’s general manager, Abdelrahman Kamel, told the Nyasa Times that the store is looking to fill a yawning void in the Malawian market.

“We realized that people find it difficult to go shopping for the whole family, with Malawians having to travel abroad for quality and fashionable clothes. So what we have done with Four Brothers is to bring global fashion trends to Malawi affordable for the locals, ”he said.

He added: “There are a lot of Malawians who have disposable income and appreciate good fashion. They were traveling abroad to shop for clothes, which is not very convenient, which is what motivated us to open this store.

At the official opening on Friday, dozens of city residents were seen in awe of the fashion collection on display.

Apparel industry executives thanked the government and health authorities for their contribution to employee immunizations and the Joint Apparel Associations Forum (JAAF) for advocating for immunization of all employees.

While prioritizing employee safety, the industry must also focus on economic sustainability, to avoid dismantling the relationships that have been built over decades. These are essential for the future of the sector, which accounts for almost half of the country’s export earnings. It directly employs 350,000 people, created 700,000 indirect jobs and contributes 6% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), they said.

Lawrence said: “Industry leaders needed to focus on balancing the economic sustainability of our organizations while prioritizing the safety and protection of our employees, whose professional roles require them to work. from factories.

“We have to compete with global and regional competitors if we are to maintain the relationships that we have worked very hard to establish over the past 20 to 30 years. Some of these competitors may not be facing the same challenges that we have now, so it’s not a level playing field, ”he said.

Despite large order cancellations due to the pandemic, industry executives said the impact would have been more severe had it not been for the strategic relationships the industry has established with buyers. and the reputation it had earned as an ethical, sustainable company, innovative and high-value supplier.

“Sri Lanka’s garment industry has been built primarily on strategic relationships and partnerships with customers, rather than transactional orders,” said Aroon Hirdaramani.

“These partnerships have been severely tested by the pandemic and the resulting massive order cancellations. However, given the industry’s strategic partnerships, most buyers have acted in this spirit of partnership; discussions on solutions to the problems were consultative and there were compromises on both sides, ”he said.

Industry leaders also emphasized that proactive actions and industry adoption of technology ensures business continuity.

Jeevith Senaratne said: “The pandemic accelerated the adoption of technology that existed but was underused. The best example is 3D product development technology, whereby we were able to produce samples virtually, get real-time feedback, and perform, without having to produce physical samples, which was difficult given the circumstances. In our company, we have increased the share of use of 3D product development from 15% before the pandemic to 50% in our company. “

Hasib Omar of Brandix shared his company’s experience starting production of personal protective equipment (PPE) by initially configuring his machines and gaining approval for face mask exports amid the constraints posed by the pandemic . Members of the 1996 squad started arriving in Provo on Friday night, and when they arrive in LES for the Top 25 showdown, they’ll see clothing that pays homage to their squad.

BYU’s gear staff led by Billy Nixon unveiled unique 1996-style polo shirts for players and coaches to wear on Saturday.

This Y-block logo was a separate logo on BYU uniforms from 1995 to 1998. The logo featured prominently on the shirt sleeves, as well as on the collar. The polo shirts also feature a “Southwestern Bell Cotton Bowl” logo on the sleeves. In 1996, BYU defeated Kansas State 19-15 in the first-ever bowl game on the New Year’s Day program.
