Lululemon will provide athletes, coaches and other Team Canada members with clothing and accessories for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Medal Ceremonies and to wear in the Athletes’ Village.

A teaser video for the collection juxtaposes close-ups of marbled fabric with moving water and textured material with a rugged landscape. Clips from several athletes, including Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares and bobsledder Dawn Richardson Wilson, model the pieces before the words “Feel Canada” appear onscreen.

Karen O’Neill, CEO of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, said Lululemon has done a lot of research into the specific needs of Paralympic athletes, looking at everything from pocket placement to heat management.

“It can be as simple as an enlarged tab on a zipper for someone who might have mobility or locomotion issues,” she said.

Lululemon CEO Calvin McDonald has said he hopes Canada will be “the best dressed team at the Olympics.”

“I think starting with the Winter Games has been a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase a lot of our unique innovation in science and feel and athlete feel and how diapers work.” , did he declare.

The shoemaker sees a potential problem with the partnership, however.

“Athletes regularly exchange items at the end of the Games and I don’t think there is a single Canadian athlete who is willing to give it all up,” he said with a laugh.

Part of the Team Canada collection was released Thursday, including the “Future Legacy Bag”. The oval shoulder bag features an embroidered maple leaf and the word “Canada” repeatedly printed on the shoulder strap. Part of the proceeds from its sales will go to the Canadian Olympic Foundation and the Paralympic Foundation of Canada.

The full collection is expected to be unveiled in Toronto on October 26.

“To say I’m excited about the kit for 2022-2028 is an understatement,” O’Neill said. “Most importantly, I am excited about what (Lululemon, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee) can do together to raise the bar for our country, our communities using sport as a platform.

Kylie Jenner has followers showing off their best fan theories with her latest look.

The media personality promoted her new business, Kylie Baby, on Instagram yesterday in a sweet moment with her daughter, Stormi Webster. Together, Kylie and her toddler snuggled up in coordinating sky blue outfits, which has led fans to speculate that Kylie is pregnant with a boy.

More New Shoes

Kylie, who is currently expecting her second child with Travis Scott, modeled a ruched sky blue tube dress herself for the photoshoot. The retro silhouette of the late 1990s and early 2000s is identifiable with its straight, strapless neckline and fitted design.

Earlier this week, the mom-to-be got ready for fall, showing off her seasonal style with her 269 million Instagram followers. Jenner’s outfit included a soft gray oversized trench coat, a nude cropped top, and faded low-rise jeans that sat neatly under her growing stomach.

Low-rise bottoms, like halter tops and tracksuits, were commonplace decades ago, as celebs uplifted their off-duty outfits with bold tubular tops and square-toed sandals, among other major trends. .

To complete the fall look, the media personality herself pulled out a set of perfectly chunky black leather boots.

When it comes to shoes, Kylie Jenner herself has an impressive history, especially in the sneaker industry. Before becoming a beauty mogul, the reality TV personality held several concerts in the sneaker world. She previously served as a Puma brand ambassador before joining Adidas in August 2018, exclusively wearing the Three Stripes styles in campaigns and on social media.

In early 2020, however, the young billionaire posted photos of herself wearing a series of Swoosh sneakers, leading fans to speculate that her contract with Adidas had expired. Since then, Kylie has continued to wear rare Nike and Jordan Brand shoes. When not in sneakers, the media star favors everything from Giuseppe Zanotti zebra sandals to Dior knee high boots to see-through Yeezy pumps to match Balmain, LaQuan Smith and Marine Serre clothing, among other top brands.

Although many promising candidates are emerging, crystalline silicon cells dominate the solar industry and account for around 95% of all installations. These cells use precious silver to conduct electricity, but Australian company SunDrive is developing an alternative that uses more durable copper instead. The team’s latest round of testing has shown not only how the most abundant metal can serve as a reliable investment, but it can push the technology into new ground, achieving record yields for sizable silicon solar cells. commercial value of 25.54%.

SunDrive is a startup that rose to the challenge in 2015 of replacing silver in commercially viable silicon solar cells with copper, in order to improve the long-term prospects of the technology. As the world turns to renewable forms of energy over the next few decades, there will be an increasing demand for the most efficient solar cells on offer, and hitching our wagon to expensive and increasingly scarce money. could create a bottleneck.

As a raw material, copper is about 100 times cheaper than silver and much more abundant. After debuting in a Sydney garage as part of a doctoral project with the University of New South Wales, the SunDrive team finally fabricated a silicon solar cell based on copper rather than d money in 2019 that has become the most efficient industrial-size solar cell ever created. produced in Australia.

Then last year, the startup received government funding to take this technology from an industrial-sized cell to a commercial module that can be installed on rooftops. The latter cells were recently tested at the Hamelin Solar Energy Research Institute in Germany, which awarded the team’s certification for the new world efficiency record earlier this month.

“A lot of people, myself included, have spent many years trying to demonstrate that copper is an economically viable and sustainable alternative to silver,” says Alison Lennon, professor at the University of New Wales from South and SunDrive advisor. “We’ve never been able to fully convince the industry, but that’s what Sundrive did with this world record. I think it could really be a game-changer for the industry. There will be a lot. of interest in how this was achieved. “

The 25.54% of the team surpass the previous efficiency record of a 25.26% commercial-size silicon solar cell owned by the Chinese company Longi. Other silicon solar cells have gone beyond that in the lab, but achieving such performance in a commercial-sized cell, using copper instead of silver, is a notable step forward for the industry. .

“In order to limit the global alert, we will need to install terawatts of solar panels,” says Lennon. “It will require a lot of metal. Silver is a finite resource and as it becomes more and more scarce, its price will therefore increase the cost of producing solar modules will also increase. Lower grade ores also produce more emissions. This compounds the problem. Copper is much more available as a resource, it is cheaper, and it is also easier to recycle. The metal in copper clad solar modules will be easier to recover from old modules and can therefore be more easily recycled in the future. This helps a lot from a sustainability point of view.

Representing 40% of all the projects selected, French productions will dominate the Cartoon Forum in Toulouse this year for reasons that far exceed home advantage. Based on the 33 projects presented during this year’s pitch sessions as well as the relatively robust state of the Gallic animation ecosystem – which produced 295 hours of content in 2020 while increasing foreign investment by nearly 10% since 2018 – are a number of structural and political advantages. reforms designed to directly stimulate such results.

“We have seen the conjunction of several factors”, explains Sarah Hemar, managing director of TV France International, which recently merged with the organization promoting cinema UniFrance. “First, the tradition of graphic arts, drawing and comics, which is well established in France. Then there is a strong system of creative design and training, with many schools creating a highly skilled workforce. “

More Variety

“There is also the public sector,” continues Hemar. “Wishing to develop this industry in a more dynamic way, the government intervened at every stage [along the supply chain]. “

These interventions began with a series of measures implemented by the French Ministry of Culture throughout the 1980s which mandated, alongside public funding and a series of incentives, free and pay cable broadcasters of guide a steady flow of investments in the sector. .

In recent years, this has translated into funding of 60 million euros ($ 70 million) for broadcasters, with France Television taking half of this tab. Coupled with the 125 million euros ($ 146 million) brought in by international sales and presales – mostly buyers in the United States and Germany – this government-mandated investment has kept the French industry going. largest event in Europe, with 133 identified studios and 7,500 employees.

And the fact that many, if not most, are not in Paris is no coincidence either.

“There was a central decision to decentralize the ecosystem,” explains Hemar. “In France, if you do not decide to decentralize, everything [conglomerate]. So there was a decision to irrigate the territory.

Co-production between the Rennes shingle Vivement Lundi et Paris and the Angoulême company Superprod, the Cartoon Forum’s pitch project “Moi et mon compost” (photo) is a title which has benefited from a more varied national landscape.

Note: The 2D animated series with an ecological vocation has benefited not only from the more generalized support of France CNC and Creative Media Europe, a project of the European Commission, but also of Tempo, a local development fund launched by the city of Rennes.

“There are various funds that support projects at all stages,” explains Aurélie Angebault, director of Vivement Lundi. “Recently, Breton support funds have been restructured to remain competitive, to be able to grow and accommodate new projects. They don’t just help productions to help the sector; they seek to develop sustainable structures in the region.

As the Breton funds were restructured, others were created from scratch, particularly in the aftermath of an administrative campaign in 2016 aimed at reducing and consolidating the number of regions in the country. Among its other benefits, administrative restructuring pooled and merged disparate support funds, thereby increasing their overall impact while broadening their reach.

For producers across the country, these supports have helped them expand their workforce – while helping new graduates of skills training programs across the country integrate more quickly into the industry.

“Regions with stagnant sectors are looking to renew themselves by bringing in young professionals who are highly qualified and ready to settle,” says Angebault. “The average age of a person working in our studio is 25 years old. These are people who need a certain quality of life, who are looking for it. This is something that the decentralization campaign is proposing.

“The question of the quality of life and the ability to develop and expand in a city with lower real estate costs than in Paris [is extremely important]», Adds Camille Serceau, director of Superprod. “I’m happy to be based in Angoulême and not in Paris.

Indeed, while projects like “Me and My Compost” may initially benefit from development funds in one part of the country, they may later be driven by production by highly skilled labor in another. Angoulême, for example, has become famous for its animation and post-production infrastructure, boasting over 30 animation studios and nearly twice as many digital and multimedia equipment, many of which lacked the body of audiovisual development of the city, Magelis.

“Magelis is very present and stays abreast of all the studios and productions in progress,” explains Serceau. “These agencies talk to each other, find out how to distribute the work between the regions, ensuring that it is fair. It’s not just producers who are leading the way.

“By doing what I love, I started meeting like-minded people and it really made me come out of my shell. It has been such a transformation in my confidence and ability – I’d be proud of it at 16.

We know Melbourne has an extremely talented community of next-gen creatives (we’ve already met a few on FJ). For his latest project, the adidas Forum Writing, adidas wanted to tap into that talent. The brand recently brought dozens of these local designers together and gave them a task, asking each to work on a creative project exploring one of five themes – identity, technology, culture, future world, or control of life.

Each participant was given creative autonomy over their project and a budget to allow their vision to come to life. They could work with whoever they wanted, however they wanted, create whatever they wanted – some made baseball cards, others fanzines, others music videos. The project is inspired by the reissue of iconic ’80s sneakers and marks a new chapter for the brand, which remains open for the future.

Over the past week, Fashion Journal has hosted creative productions from eight of these designers, including fashion designer, videographer and producer Jaida the Creator. Using unconventional mediums and experimental production methods, Jaida uses fashion design to breathe new life into old textiles. for her Adidas Forum Press room project, she collaborated with a friend and creative colleague Zali to create their fashion film and the accompanying zine, Stay open-minded.

Like any budding talented little boy, you can spot a creative kid a mile away. These are usually the ones with ballpoint pen scribbles on their knuckles, sticky magazine cutouts on their binders, and a variety of colorful accessories in their hair. As a former art kid myself, I know the cautious self-expression of teenagers when I see it.

For Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist Jadia the Creator, these experimental years have served as the inspiration for a successful creative career. At just 19, Jaida used her talents to forge a path of her own entirely – drawing in and out of videography, photography, production and fashion design. Crafting pieces using materials such as old duvet covers, comforters and sleeping bags, his new brand Inner Sanctum redefines sustainable innovation.

Most recently, Jaida’s designs were featured in her adidas Forum Newsroom project, Stay open-minded. Collaborating with a handful of Melbourne’s coolest creative talents, the film (and accompanying zine) provides a glimpse into the future of fashion.

Hi Jaïda! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your beginnings in the creative industries?

Hey! I am Jaida the Creator and I am 19 years old. It’s so crazy, when I started this project I was 18 years old.

That’s crazy. You have already accomplished so much.

Thank you! I think I have always been a creative person and started to really experiment when I was 16. I thought I wanted to get into videography first, so I got a Creative Industries certification. Obviously there are a lot of crossovers in the creative industries and I ended up falling into clothing design.

I left school very early, started studying fashion full time, and started balancing photography, videography and design, which are my real passions, I would say. By doing what I love, I started meeting more like-minded people and it really made me come out of my shell. It has been such a transformation in my confidence and ability – I’d be proud of it at 16.

Your short film project for the adidas Forum Newsroom, Stay open minded, aims to educate viewers on the urgency of fashion sustainability. How did you use your designs to translate this?

While sustainability was something I wanted to translate into our final work, our concept was really focused on self-expression and our local creative community. In incorporating my designs, I wanted it to be subtle, for people to take a second take and be like, “Woah, what is this made of?” “

It came together in a really cohesive way. My designs breathe new life into old textiles and we wanted this film to breathe new life into our creative expression. Locking down has been tough, and filming these crazy outfits in mundane places – the grocery store, the park, the backyard – shows that there are still ways to express ourselves, even when we feel limited.

This project showcases some of Melbourne’s coolest creative talent. How did you select and create so many different looks?

We really wanted to capture the aesthetic diversity of the different designs we worked with. Josh, for example, has that kind of anonymity in his work. He wants his photograph to speak for itself. So by putting him in a mask, we were communicating this image that he created.

Kaira is a very bold and expressive personality, so we wanted the colors of her outfit to reflect that. We also had the DJ decks in his photos, because that’s his creative personality. It was really important that we showcase the incredible talent we were working with.

What was it like collaborating with Zali on this project?

We’ve worked together before, but it was different because it was such a big project. I’m actually really used to working on my own, so having a co-director to bounce back was really helpful. Having that creative input and two different skills made the final project so much better.

I think I have a bit of an ADHD brain and I often find myself distracted and push projects that way. She really pushed me to persevere and we have a similar vision so we worked really well together.

Your Inner Sanctum clothing brand is a relatively new creative endeavor to you. What was the catalyst for the launch?

It was a really organic process. Once my interest in fashion design was awakened, I began to frequently save and return second-hand clothes. I haven’t even officially launched a collection, I just did some custom work as they appear.

The unpredictability works for me right now, especially since I get all of my gear from thrift stores or donations – a difficult process to regulate. I am currently working on the launch of a small drop of sustainably recycled parts.

Your design process is so interesting. I know you use really unconventional materials and innovative production methods to make your parts – where do you find your inspiration?

I know everyone says that but honestly everywhere! Social media, movies, my fellow young designers and my friends really inspire me. Many of my custom pieces are built around the material they are made of. Like a jacket I designed recently, it was made from the packaging – bubble wrap, cardboard, and plastic bags – that came out of some packages my parents received.

The materials were so interesting and vibrant for me, the design really came naturally. I also like to use upholstery and household fabrics; one of my most popular sets is made from an old quilt.

What do you think is the future of fashion?

It’s so exciting right now because we’re moving towards a more sustainable fashion industry. My generation is really aware of the impact we have on the world and it is reflected in the way we create. We are also becoming more open-minded about the way people dress.

When I was younger, I wanted to fit in. The next generation of artists pride themselves on being different and using style as a creative tool to express themselves.

In an announcement that must have struck terror into the hearts of millions of children and adolescents, the Chinese government recently implemented a new policy to restrict online games for children under 18 to just three hours per week.

While unpopular with young people as well as gaming companies, it begs the question of whether other countries should address the issue of children increasingly consumed by online games.

The online gambling industry is huge. In 2020, the global online gaming market generated approximately $ 21.1 billion in revenue, a record growth of 21.9% from the previous year. There are around one billion online gamers in the world, over 10% of whom are Chinese children.

Heavy incentives

Online games and the platforms that support them are increasingly effective in ensuring that the eyes stay glued to screens for as long as possible. They are highly incentivized because it helps them earn money through ad revenue and in-game services. For example, Amazon-owned streaming platform Twitch has generated over $ 100 million in ad revenue at first quarter of 2021, in part by allowing users to engage with 71 million hours of game streams per day.

Children who might otherwise be playing outdoors and making real friends, learning a skill, such as playing an instrument or studying, play addicting online games instead.

Rapid advances in technology have made it too easy for parents and children to rely on the Internet for entertainment rather than making the effort to organize physical activity. As social networks are now deeply integrated into these games and smartphones allow instant access to technology, children’s social life is mainly limited to the various online platforms.

The problem, however, goes beyond wasting precious time that could be better spent making friends, exercising, or studying for the kids. It can cause serious health problems.

Chinese authorities have called their latest campaign a war on “electronic drugs” over concerns over the addictive nature of online gaming platforms.

The US-based rehabilitation clinic, the Addiction Center, describes how video games trigger the chemical dopamine in the same way as addictive drugs. The World Health Organization recently included gambling addiction as a disorder and estimated that 3-4% of video gamers struggle with addiction.

There are potentially tens of millions of people who suffer from gambling addiction. People with symptoms of depression are also particularly vulnerable, seeing gambling as an escape from their daily struggles.

Pay to win culture

Many platforms have gaming elements built into their systems, so online gaming addiction can have serious financial implications as well. Examples include in-game currencies that can be exchanged for real money, allowing micro-transactions in exchange for “loot boxes,” leading to a “pay-to-win” culture, where players can continue their game. progression and add character customization with cash.

Ninety-three percent of all kids play video games, but more worryingly, according to the Gamble Aware charity, up to 40 percent of those kids have opened “loot boxes” in the game. , containing random digital rewards.

So some kids may end up spending more than $ 100 per month trying to get a specific digital feature, like a new outfit for their avatar. To counter this quasi-gambling, the UK government is considering measures to control micro-gambling transactions in the same way it regulates gambling.

Addiction to online games does not only affect children, adults can also become addicted to these platforms. The Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of sciences, has published studies showing a ‘moderate to strong’ correlation between adolescents playing games with micro-transactions and then developing gambling addiction as they age. adult.

Online gambling is part of a larger challenge in the modern digital world. Recent advances in technology have made it easier for us to search for information and services, whether accessing healthcare, doing business via online video calls, or sharing and discovering gossip on social media platforms. through videos, photos, news and blogs.

It’s also intrinsic to our daily routine with many positive characteristics, but it means that we now spend most of our waking hours staring at a screen.

Price comparison site Uswitch’s studies show that on average in the UK people are digitally connected 6.4 hours a day. The numbers are even worse for people born after 1995, known as Generation Z, who consume digital media 11 hours a day, which is the majority of their waking hours.

Tackle the game

For China, the latest crackdown on playing time is an escalation of existing attempts to limit underage gaming, which previously had a 90-minute cap on weekday online play time. Online games will now only be accessible to children for one hour in the evening on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. China is perhaps unique in that it has the digital infrastructure and political power to enforce this policy.

Big game companies like Tencent have a responsibility to implement the policy, including requiring users to provide their real name and age, or face the wrath of the Chinese state.

While restricting online gaming in this way is unthinkable in most countries, a larger debate about our relationship with the online world should always take place. In the UK, reviews from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) suggest that pandemic-induced lockdowns have led people to spend 71% more time playing online games.

We have to be careful not to make this problem worse in the longer term, maybe digital detox is needed. Otherwise, the consequences of inaction could be severe, especially for those born in the digital age.

After last year’s cancellation due to the coronavirus crisis, the annual gala was postponed from May to September as viral infections showed no signs of slowing down. The Met Gala was first hosted by Vogue in 1948 to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Softbank mourns in Latin America. According to Softbank, the Japanese investment conglomerate has launched a second fund focused on Latin America, with a capital commitment of $ 3 billion from the company, and will grow as the fund seeks ” options for raising additional capital “. Announced that there is a possibility to do so. The vehicle is drawing attention with its first commitment capital of $ 2 billion, following SoftBank’s first Latin America-focused fund announced in March 2019.

It’s easy to understand what all this fuss is about. About four dozen employees of this organization, led by CEO of SoftBank Group International and COO of SoftBank Group Corporation, Marcelo Claure, are active in Miami, Sao Paulo and Mexico City and have 48 startups that SoftBank is connected to. It helps identify and fund. According to the company, it stands at $ 3.5 billion and has a total net IRR of 85% (mostly on paper).

Some of the so-called unicorns Softbank has helped, and in some cases, helped get to Unicorn Territory, QuintoAndar, Lucky, Mercado Bitcoin, Jim Pass When Madeira Madeira. the Argentine personal financial management application Ualá.

I’m so busy I just hired two new management associates to support all of this investment at the end of last week.

Surprisingly, overseeing investments in Latin America is just one of the many roles that Bolivia-born Crowley plays for SoftBank. (He also oversees the broad portfolio of SoftBank operators, including Arm, Brightstar, Fortress, SB Energy and Boston Dynamics. He oversees SoftBank ownership at T-Mobile US. He is executive chairman of WeWork, which was interim CEO. After founder Adam Newman was forced to resign.) Still, I think this might be his biggest passion right now. And I’m glad he’s joining us. Confused I’ll talk about all of this Thursday morning September 23.

If you care about where SoftBank is currently shopping in Latin America, or if you want to better understand the frantic pace of Latin American investment that the industry has seen over the past 18 months, this is something you want to miss. There is no conversation. ..

Better yet, Claure joins all of Confuse’s great speakers, Canva CEO Melanie Perkins, including entrepreneur actor Ryan Reynolds Brian Armstrong, Coinbase CEO.

The show is coming soon. Get your ticket now For less than $ 100 before the price goes up in a few days. We’ll see each other there.
