Now is the time for a cardigan. He’s been back for the past few years and is now here to stay for the foreseeable future. It is written in the fashion the stars and the spinning leaves are mother nature’s signal that it’s time to coat yourself in layers. And the cardigan might just be the ultimate layer. It’s easier to put on than a sweater; easier to remove when the weather gets hotter than expected; and its open front design makes it easy to see all the layers you’re wearing.

Between ivy and workwear, Scottish heritage and streetwear, the cardigan takes many forms. So what do you identify with welcome of an acoustic set of your greatest successes, raising sheep, animating a some neighbors Where drink a milkshake, there is a cardigan for you. If you are looking to layer yourself, give them a try.

Best overall cardigan

V-neck cardigan sweater

This Scotland-made cardigan balances both new and old. It builds on Jamieson of Shetland’s long legacy of heavy knits, but is comparatively streamlined. There are retro tinted football leather buttons to boot.

Best upgrade cardigan

Wool cardigan

Fine French luxury brand De Bonne Facture relies on an Italian workshop for its wool cardigans, which has been in business just outside Milan since 1977.

Best affordable cardigan

Long-sleeved lambswool cardigan

We say it over and over again, but you can’t go wrong with Uniqlo. This lambswool cardigan is no exception: it’s soft, fit and super inexpensive.

Checked knit cardigan on the left back

The YMC cardigan checks all the boxes: it’s oversized without being bulky, patterned and pleasantly soft from the first wear.

Mohair cardigan

New Zealand brand Checks Downtown has mastered the cardigan. The fledgling brand has made a few of them in a few different colors, but honey, as seen here, is probably our favorite.

Ribbed cashmere cardigan

This option combines the softness of cashmere with the structure provided by the ribbed knits. In addition, there are small cuffs for a higher look.

Cashmere cardigan sweater

Simple but more, this is a cute olive green cardigan from J. Crew. It’s crafted from cashmere and features six buttons for a higher, more secure neckline.

Checked cardigan

What’s the point of wearing a cardigan if you can’t have fun with it? Todd Snyder’s iteration dates back to the ’70s, bowling alleys, and bad (but here? Good) wallpapers.

Mohair knit cardigan

Brownstone’s bright blue cardigan features contrasting buttons, loose sleeves and two front bucket pockets.

Floral jacquard knit cardigan

Beams Plus’ cardigan is made from virgin materials, but it looks like it was reused from someone’s sick old stuffing. If you’ve been careful lately, the rugs are here.

Kura curly virgin wool-blend cardigan

This one from A Kind of Guise could easily replace a blazer. Because it’s curly, there’s softness and structure. Plus, the raised ribbon around the buttons gives it a cuff-like look.

Will O The Wisp Vest

With a cool name like Will O The Wisp, you know the cardigan from Antwerp brand Howlin had to look cool too. And that’s the case. It is a rich wine red color with a classic cut.

Fleece cardigan

If you’re worried about slipping into a cardigan, then do so. It’s almost a bomber, with its wool fleece body, high buttons and stand-up collar.

Shetland Cardigan

Again, this iteration of Pendleton is almost seen as a jacket and not a cardigan. It buttons up to the top, has a slight collar and a straight shape.

Alpine wool cardigan

The Corridor Alpwool cardigan, made from a blend of alpaca and merino wool, was made in Peru by the brand’s partner workshop. The wild orange color is just warm enough for fall – and the sweater will be too.

3A wooden cardigan

Check this one out. It’s made by Inverallan, a team of knitters established in Scotland in the 1970s. They sell a lot of their own products on their own site, but the best of the bunch, in my opinion, comes in tons of different retailers. You can find an option like this 3A wooden cardigan at an amazing price.

Mohair Cobain Cardigan

Named after Kurt Cobain’s favorite (and probably musty) mohair cardigan, Jelado’s Cobain cardigan comes in some sort of ombre color, starting with black, then white, pink, gray, gray plus. dark, gray again and black once more.

Have you ever had the great idea of giving your entire wardrobe a makeover? Several years ago, I did this – in an effort to be more like who I am: a confident, successful corporate account manager. I revamped $ 19,000 worth of brand new clothes in one year. Yes, you read that right. It was the biggest money mistake i ever made.

UncomfortableZ report: The future of finance
Learn more:
Gen Z has strong opinions on capitalism – are the experts Agree?

Let’s get one thing straight about my $ 19,000 wardrobe mistake: I walked into it blindly. I had no plan, no real idea of my personal style and I bought items on an emotional whim, only to put them on consignment a few months later, realizing that they weren’t “me” or that they were uncomfortable to wear. Imagine spending as much on designer clothes as having them in your closet with the tags still in place, or to be worn once and then sent to a consignment store.! Not funny.

After seeing my mistake in a summary of the annual budget, I realized that spending $ 19,000 in a year on clothes was ridiculous. Sure, I was making a lot of money, but nobody needs that much big ticket. Average person spends $ 1,900 a year on clothes, CreditDonkey says.

A capsule wardrobe is a small selection of quality clothing, organized around your chosen color palette, that reflects your personal style and lifestyle. Here’s how to adopt a capsule wardrobe to save money and stay on trend.

Budgeting 101: How to create a budget you can live with

1. Understand what a capsule wardrobe is

“A capsule wardrobe refers to a limited selection of complementary and interchangeable clothing. This allows you to create a wide variety of outfits with a small selection of clothing, ”said entrepreneur Elisa Bender.. “Capsule wardrobes became a trend in the 1970s, when boutique owner Susie Faux began selling high-quality, minimalist clothing that could be easily mixed and matched. People started to embrace this trend because it made it much easier to choose outfits.

2. Determine what you want to look like and organize yourself.

“The easiest first step in going from a ton of clothes to a few pieces is figuring out what you want to look like,” said James Thomson-Sakhrani, founder of Style standard. “It can be a lot of work if you’re still discovering yourself emotionally and psychologically, but understanding your end goal is an important start to making cuts. ”

Thomson-Sakhrani quotes a quote from Steve Jobs: “If you define the problem correctly, you almost have the solution.

In this case, adds Thomson-Sakhrani, the problem is, what do you want to look like? So you need to determine the style and niche you want to fit into.

“If you are in finance, it can mean that you focus on suits and dressier clothes, while a craftsman can look at the classics of work clothes and functionality,” said Thomson-Sakhrani. . “Once you’ve clearly created your image in your mind, there are a number of ways to cut down on wardrobes. My favorite is to put everything on a hanger upside down. Every time you carry something and put it away, you are putting the hanger back in the right direction.

After 3 to 6 months (depending on the seasonality of your clothes), Thomson-Sakhrani recommends identifying what you wear regularly and what you haven’t touched.

“Getting rid of these clothes will be a lot easier than trying to choose between two favorites,” he said.

Have it all: 50 Ways to Live the High Life on a Budget

3. Be chic with neutrals

There are many types of capsule wardrobes, but according to Maria Juvakka, founder of Chic pursuit, one of the most popular is the French minimalist capsule wardrobe.

“The Parisian style is chic, minimalist and feminine, which is why many women adopt this wardrobe,” said Juvakka. “Neutral colors like tan, black, cream and brown are preferred over bright purples and blues. It is also better to have tops, pants and dresses in solid color so that everything can be combined.

4. Understand what you need

By sitting down and understanding what I wanted and needed from a wardrobe, I was able to concentrate my shopping trips. Armed with a list of key pieces, a color palette, and a knowledge of the styles that flattered my skin tone and body type, I was able to create a practical wardrobe that I loved and made me feel. made me feel confident (and at ease).

Having guidelines for your wardrobe keeps you from buying anything outside of your “rules” and helps you avoid quick fashion and trendy impulse shopping.

To safeguard: 35 unnecessary expenses you need to cut from your budget now

5. Choose only quality “bullion” coins

One thing I did right in my $ 19,000 mistake was buy quality clothes. They retain their consignment value and last longer. Your initial cost is higher, but in the long run, your return on your investment is much better.

If you save up to buy quality now, you’ll save money by not having to replace items every year. I went from buying cheap, ill-fitting Gap jeans for $ 80 to Citizens of Humanity or Paige jeans made in North America for $ 200. They look good on me for the last few years instead of several months and I only have three pairs of jeans instead of eight.

6. Define the intentions or goals of the wardrobe

By setting guidelines for my wardrobe, I got my money and time back. I was no longer shopping every free moment that I had and throw money.

Setting guidelines, like the ones below, will free up your time and money, and allow you to approach your wardrobe with care and intention.

  • Buy no more than three pieces per season.

  • Buy only when something is worn out and beyond repair.

  • Pick items based on your lifestyle, how they look on you, and how you feel. Do you feel confident wearing it? Is it comfortable to wear?

  • Buy only from a curated list of ethical, quality designers you love.

Ouch: 17 Biggest Budgeting Mistakes You Make

7. Set a budget

“Capsule cabinets can be as cheap or as expensive as you want,” said Kenny screven, a fashion and beauty influencer. “It mainly depends on the quality of the clothes. For example, having an oversized beige sweater for fall is essential. But your personal financial situation will determine how much you are willing to spend on your capsule wardrobe. Someone richer may be willing to spend $ 400 at Brooks Brother for the capsule wardrobe effect. While someone more on a budget can get a similar sweater at Walmart for $ 20. They both have the same goal. “

8. Know where to buy to save

“Target, TJ Maxx and Ross have affordable basics,” Screven said. “In these stores, you will most certainly be able to find everything you need to achieve the looks you want for your new wardrobe capsule. While finding the basics, they also add a bit of spice when it comes to shoes and accessories. Truly taking this capsule wardrobe to the next level. They offer clothes for all occasions: work, casual, gym and loungewear.

You should also consider resale apps. “Poshmark and Rent the Runway are great ways to shop secondhand to have less impact on the environment and to get better quality parts at lower prices,” said Tara Dupuis, stylist and model.

9. Have less maintenance

When you organize a small wardrobe of quality items, you have less to worry about. If you pay attention to the care instructions when purchasing an item, you can easily avoid wasting time and money on expensive dry cleaning.

And the big bonus? Less time spent doing laundry – which is also good for the planet.

Adopting a capsule wardrobe will save you time and money, and reduce decision fatigue in the morning when trying to choose something to wear. It curbed my impulse spending and helped me to pay more attention what I put on my body and how i spend my hard earned dollars.

ELIS UK is aiming for net carbon emissions by 2045, in line with the UK government’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2050.

The company provides workwear and laundry services, as well as restroom services, to businesses of all sizes. It is the first laundry and textile services company in the UK to make a net zero commitment.

Elis rents its work clothes to its customers, collects used items, does their laundry and any necessary maintenance, before returning them. Its circular economy approach, including the care of textiles, to help ensure their use for longer, its focus on waste design, its use of the latest technology and highly efficient industrial laundries, means it already offers a carbon footprint option for its customers.

The company’s new commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2045 is the next natural step. It is based on Elis’s ambitious commitments for 2025, which consist in particular of accelerating its development of innovative and responsible products and services, reducing its environmental footprint and ensuring that it has a positive impact on its populations and its communities.

The commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045 covers all emissions, including direct emissions from its operations, indirect emissions related to the energy used in its operations and all other emissions related to its activities . The company invests in its operations, processes, logistics and supply chain to achieve its goal.

Mark Franklin, Director of Corporate Operations for Elis UK, explains: “Our customers are increasingly concerned about sustainability and climate change in their own operations and in their supply chains, just as we are at Elis. By announcing both our intention to achieve net zero carbon emissions and the time frame we are aiming for, we are the first UK laundry and textile services company to make such a commitment. We look forward to working with customers and suppliers to achieve this ambitious goal.

Oktoberfest history

Crown Prince of Bavaria Ludwig (who later became King Ludwig I), married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810. Shortly afterwards, the groom’s father announced that in five days a grand reception would take place in the fields in front of the city gates, to celebrate the happy royal event. The field was later named Theresienwiese, “Theresa’s Fields”, in honor of the Crown Princess. Locals sometimes call it the “Wies’n”, or more commonly today – “Wiesn”.

The long interval between the wedding and the reception was to allow bakeries to bake extra bread and for other food suppliers a chance to set up their operations. The 40,000 residents have been invited, and it would be a city vacation. Everyone was invited to wear their best Sunday – no lederhosen would be allowed.

And so, this wedding celebration in the officially Roman Catholic kingdom of Bavaria has become an annual event. (Notably, the married princess was Lutheran. It was an arranged marriage intended to create an allegiance that would expand the kingdom). Even today, the modern German state of Bavaria remains the most Catholic part of Germany.

Subsequently, this ultimate Catholic wedding reception became an annual event with its heart set in Munich, Bavaria (now a state in modern Germany). Lederhosen and dirndls have become acceptable clothing, although they are often more richly decorated than just work clothes.

“We hope that you will come and participate in the gemütlichkeit in St. Colman,” explained those responsible for the event.

The information in this article was provided by those responsible for the event.

Oktoberfest 2021 volunteers Jana Deeks (left) and Patty Griffiths (right) place signs promoting the return of the event. The event is free and open to everyone.

Hundreds of construction workers and their supporters stormed their union headquarters in Melbourne to protest against new mandatory vaccination rules for the construction industry.

Protesters wearing high-visibility work clothes gathered outside the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union headquarters on Elizabeth Street in the city on Monday morning.

By chanting “f *** the jab”, those who mobilize are against the obligation to prove their vaccination to be allowed to return to the sites, some affirming that they would prefer that the whole construction industry be closed.

A sign with “my body my choice” is visible among the demonstrators.

There is currently a 25% cap on the industry’s workforce in Victoria, with traders having to receive their first dose of a vaccine by this Thursday to be allowed to return to work.

Monday’s protest escalated when two union officials, including Victorian Construction Branch Secretary John Sekta, came out to speak to protesters just before noon.

Mr Setka was greeted with boos and insults from the crowd, while some protesters threw bottles.

“Please calm down, can you at least give me the respect to speak up. We are not the enemy, I don’t know what you heard,” he told the protesters, in a speech. video posted on social networks.

“I never, ever said I supported compulsory vaccination.”

The protesters then called on the CFMEU leader to “stand up or stand down” and shouted “we are one”.

After Mr. Setka got inside, protesters smashed a glass door to the building.

By 1 p.m., the protest had swelled to fill both sides of Elizabeth Street, with union delegates standing outside the building to prevent protesters from entering.

The rain and hail did not deter protesters, with calls for Mr. Setka to come back outside and walk with them.

Some of those rallying say they will come to the CFMEU office every day until the union bow to their demands.

Just before 2 p.m., a protester entered the interior to meet with union officials.

Police are gathered around the rally and have blocked parts of the road, but do not appear to be pushing the protesters forward.

It is not clear if all of those protesting are construction workers, as a post on the Melbourne Freedom Rally Telegram group encouraged anti-lockdown protesters to join them.

“If you’re in the area and want to support these guys, head down,” a Telegram message said.

Another said: “If you have high visibility just go down NUMBERS!”.

Prime Minister Daniel Andrews told reporters in Melbourne during his daily coronavirus update that the protests were “not smart, they are not safe”.

“This industry is 25% open, we want to get to 50, getting vaccinated is an incredibly important part of it,” Andrews said.

“Protests don’t work. Getting the shot works, following the rules works. That’s how you stay open, that’s how you open.”

Monday’s protests come after construction workers set up plastic chairs and tables in the middle of Melbourne streets on Friday, protesting lockdown restrictions which included closing tea rooms for morning breaks.

This masculine number is the fourth for which we are collaborating with stylist Julian Ganio, and as always it gave me a lot of joy. Julian works with a lot of top fashion houses, but my favorite stories are the ones where he puts people at the forefront. When I first mentioned this issue, he sent me a moodboard with pictures of fathers and sons. Most were fairly straightforward, many of the characters were well known. What they captured, however, was the bizarre formality of the father-son dynamic and how that relationship was projected into the clothes they chose to wear. There was Marlon Brando, who looked nothing like a morning idol, smiling at her baby. And the Prince of Wales, softly formal in a suit with Princes William and Harry, wearing moccasins, knee socks and adorable crimson shorts. Winston Churchill smiling in a long coat with astrakhan cuffs and shawl collar alongside his son – barely a teenager but already smiling with good reason – in a pale gray tweed suit. The paintings, even in the most formal compositions, offered a moment of emotional availability, tenderness and pride.

Working alongside photographer James Harvey-Kelly and casting director Tiago Martins, Julian captured the same spirit for “The Family Man,” this week’s cover showcasing styles for the new season. It’s an endearing portrait of modern patriarchy, whether we look at Mitchell Belk’s three-month-old son and partner, James Clark-Belk, or the cover portrait of Julian George’s nephew and grandfather Robin Beal. , wearing Balenciaga (naturally).

While the big sartorial changes in menswear are rarely as dramatic or as temperamental as they are in womenswear, it is undeniable that the past year has seen some significant changes. Images of financiers returning to Wall Street after a long period of working from home find that even the strictest dress codes are finally relaxing, as chinos, jeans and sneakers have now become more uniform and ties are barely worn. . A similar disrespect for what was once considered compulsory work wear has also crept into the city, which is more likely to be flashed with cycling lycra than the traditional banker boy stripes. Aleks Cvetkovic examines the new high-low attitude, to discover how the suit and sportswear have combined.

For those looking for a more explicit focus on what to wear this fall, I have two tips. Buy a turtleneck. As Steve McQueen, Miles Davis, and more recently at Prada testify, there are few things as chic as a man who can ride. Robert armstrong gives his verdict with an overview. And second, buy burgundy: like our shoot by Leon Mark and Evens JP Mornay makes it clear, this season should see you dressed in 50 shades of wine.
