Community Calendar: New Years Eve Celebration, Library Events, Tech & Coffee

New year celebration, 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Cromwell Park Pavilion. The event, sponsored by the Cromwell Area Community Club, features live music by “The River Hill Rangers”, hors d’oeuvres, a champagne toast and dancing. Coverage costs are $ 10 per person. The semi-formal event is aimed at people aged 21 and over because of the cash bar.

Technology and coffee, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Chickadee Coffeehouse & Deli, Barnum. Barnum Community Education is hosting the free event. Community members can come to the site for help with their cellphones, e-readers, tablets, laptops, social media platforms and more. RTS community education staff and Nathan Rimolde will be on hand to answer questions.

Ping Pong and Air Hockey for Teens, 4 pm-5pm, Cloquet Public Library.

Digital wellness for teens, tweens and caregivers, 6 pm-7.30pm, Municipal Library of Cloquet. The Carlton County Youth Collaborative will discuss digital wellness. Caregivers can attend with their child or come alone. A light meal will be served and a babysitting service will be provided for younger siblings or family members.

AICHO birch bark rattles workshop, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., virtual. Laban Smith, Wolpole Island First Nation Tribal Member (Bkejwenong Territory) and Birch Bark Artist, will explain the cultural and spiritual significance of traditional birch bark rattles while showing how to make one. This session will help participants / viewers to revitalize and reinforce traditional practices through language, stories / teachings and utilitarian art. No material will be provided for this workshop. However, there is a list of necessary supplies on the AICHO event Facebook page. Register before January 7 at https://forms.gle/Xh8VCrANwagv4rpR7. The event is free and sponsored by the Behavioral Health Division of the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the McKnight Foundation.

Chair yoga for all, 10 a.m., Municipal Library of Cloquet. Led by Carolyn Ripp, chair yoga can increase flexibility, improve core strength and balance, reduce stress and pain, and more. This can be beneficial not only for the elderly, but also for anyone who has a desk job and / or tends to sit for a long time. Those attending the free event should come in comfortable clothing. This event will focus on scrapbooking, but is open to all types of crafts. Community members are welcome to bring their projects for uninterrupted working time and plenty of workspace. Whatever their profession, all are welcome. The event is open to the public. Registration is $ 15 and reserves a table for your use. Coffee, punch and water will be provided. Bereavement support group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Pine Room at Community Memorial Hospital.
