Connor McKnight RTW Fall 2022 – WWD

Now in its third season, menswear and womenswear designer Connor McKnight, 27, showed off his fall collection on Monday, fueled by investment from Kitsuné’s Ventures.

Inspiration: “I have looked at the black experience of work throughout history, some darker than others, from the Reconstruction era to today. For black people in particular, certain works were seen as good job. I wanted to explore that,” he said.

The look: Workwear remixed.

Quote to note: “Nowadays you see things that people work in and maybe they don’t feel as stylish, but that’s what everybody wore,” he said of his work pants that sit high on the waist with relaxed legs. Although he wore the vintage pair that inspired him, McKnight translated the look into canvas and denim.

Key parts: Square blazer in patchwork leather; reinvented puff-neck lifejacket; shrunken peach and puffer vests, a poet’s shirt with a fleece dickie; plaid knit sweater; heather knit bike shorts; workwear denim; square cream suit, shirt and tie with checkerboard accents.

To take with: McKnight got imaginative with outerwear and continued to design his fledgling brand’s signatures, including a checkerboard pattern, boxy fit and high-waisted work pants. Over time and with resources, it will develop further.
