Just Cavalli RTW Fall 2022 – WWD
Throughout the pandemic, TikTok enthusiasts have become accustomed to traveling the world via their smartphone screens, duos with other creators around the world.
For its fall collection, Just Cavalli unleashed that desire to travel and party together through a fun and cool collection, mixing references to early 2000s aesthetics (another TikTok favorite), which nods to the brand’s heyday and is adored by Gen Zers, who haven’t had the first-hand experience.
In an explosive and oft-heavy mix that should appeal to its fans, the brand’s design team evoked classic Parisian chic, offering a youthful and fun take on couture silhouettes.
Cue off-the-shoulder balloon dresses in the signature zebra print; barely any rhinestone tops arranged in flowers, and miniskirts with trains and ruffles worn with immaculate white shirts.
A houndstooth blazer, lengthened and with a fringed hem – read Girl from the Right Bank – and recalled some of the looks sported by Lily Collins in “Emily in Paris”, while inventive jewels and baroque prints recalled Just Cavalli circa 2009.
Things got more minimal in chenille-knit dresses with sultry cutouts and simple leopard-print separates, or via pantsuits that sported the distorted houndstooth pattern as if seen through a prism. They were the highlights of the collection.
A late ’90s hue seeped into menswear, which had a decidedly more urban feel. Inspired by the New York scene, it reinterprets streetwear essentials from a contemporary angle. Distressed work pants and zebra-patterned pieces, both made from denim, were juxtaposed with bleached velvet tops and biker jackets, channeling a rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Skin-tight crewnecks layered under tartan shirts and distressed cargo pants looked appropriate for adult skateboarders.
