Leading brands leverage Aetrex’s 3D foot scanning technology to improve fit and performance

TEANECK, NJ–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aetrex, Inc. (“Aetrex”), the global market leader in foot scanning technology, orthotics and comfort and wellness footwear, today announced that its foot scanning technology Albert 2 Pro stand is used in the performance labs of notable brand partners, including BOA Technology Inc., makers of the BOA® Fit System, to improve the performance of their fit systems and footwear from the world’s leading partner brands.

Since launching its Performance Fit Lab four years ago, BOA has used the Albert 2 Pro to scan athletes’ unique feet, collecting key 3D foot measurements as well as biomechanical data via motion capture, plates by force, etc. Subtle variations in foot shape, shoe upper construction, and material selection impact athletic performance. In addition to using scan data to select and recruit testers with a well-fit foot shape in the lab, BOA analyzes data to optimize how the BOA Fit System integrates with footwear to wrap the foot in safely, providing maximum performance benefits.

“If we understand where the average instep is highest along the length of the shoe, we can design our panels to lock in that area,” said Dan Feeney, Ph.D., director of Biomechanics Research & Performance. FitLab. “Similarly, we use the length from the heel to the metatarsophalangeal joints to determine where our last panel should end. This way, we ensure that shoes from industry-leading partner brands get the maximum performance benefits of the BOA Fit. System.

BOA’s Performance Fit Lab has scanned over 300 athletes with the Albert 2 Pro and conducted performance tests in the segments of Golf, Court, Trail, Touring, Workwear, Skiing, Snowboarding and cycling. BOA found that setups with an enveloping structure powered by the BOA Fit System improved athletic performance (agility and speed) by up to 9%, according to a peer-reviewed white paper from Footwear Science.

More recently, Burton is one of many performance brand partners who have acquired an Albert 2 Pro to help inform the best fit through scientific data.

“Burton is currently testing the latest and greatest Aetrex technology at Burton’s Vermont headquarters store as part of our effort to find a source of real-world data to help better understand foot shapes,” said Eric Carlson, Sr. Product Line Merchandiser at Burton.
