CLUSTER SPRINGS, Virginia – R&S Race Cars officials announced Friday that 16-year-old Jonathan Shafer will drive the team’s # 91 Toyota Camry home car next year.

Shafer will participate in the full CARS Late Model Stock Tour program while also participating in all three Virginia Late Model Triple Crown events. Team co-owner Marcus Richmond will be the team leader.

“I am very happy to drive the R&S house car for Marcus Richmond and Steve Stallings and to have Marcus as a team leader,” said Shafer. “I have a few years of experience in the CARS circuit and have learned and progressed through great training. I am grateful to all of the people who helped me through the process and had a big impact on my racing skills and knowledge. This also includes big sponsors like Solid Rock Carriers, Osgar’s Autobody and Harrison Workwear.

“I’m ready for the start of the 2022 season so we can win a few races and compete for the CARS Tour championship. “

The upcoming season will be Shafer’s third with the CARS Late Model Stock Tour. In 22 series to date, he has won five top five and 10 top 10. His best result was a fourth place finish earlier this year at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, NC.

“We can’t wait to see Jonathan Shafer driving the # 91 Toyota Camry for R&S Race Cars next year,” said Richmond. “Our team is a big family and we welcome the Shafers to our family. I think it will be a good relationship and we are going to build on the success we had last year as well as Jonathan’s success at the end of this year so that we can compete for the wins and the championship.

The CARS Tour season begins March 12-13 at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC
