Virgil Abloh’s latest capsule collection for Louis Vuitton lands in New York – Robb Report
Four months after his passing, Virgil Abloh’s latest capsule collection for Louis Vuitton debuted at his residence in Soho, New York.
Titled “Daybreak,” the Pre-Fall 2022 collection features a casual mix of ready-to-wear and accessories for men. From mohair knits that feature the iconic LV crest to striped suits and matching denim sets, the collection is undeniably modern and colorful. To highlight the vibrant hues found throughout the capsule, the residence is set against gradient walls in shades of teal, jade green, and pastel yellow. The space is also filled with custom mannequins of models who have been Abloh’s muses. As for accessories, the store features multiple shelves and designated areas that showcase the late designer’s iconic bestsellers: soft trunks, mini tote bags, backpacks, colorful LV sneakers and more.
Of course, the capsule represents much more than its splashy residence. Abloh wanted the collection – and its emphasis on tailoring – to interpret “grown-up” codes through relaxed fits and lightweight materials. Pieces merge sportswear and workwear, offering bold new versions of the three-piece suit, among other things.
“My philosophy is very influenced by the clothes that people actually wear. What I do is an analysis of a generation: what do people buy and why do they wear it, “said the late designer in a statement about his pre-collection process. “This question naturally raises an equal interest in tradition and in transforming tradition. But it’s also about challenging myself and exploring different lands.” It’s creative freedom.
The “Daybreak” capsule collection will be sold until the beginning of June at Louis Vuitton residence at 104 Prince Street in New York.
