TANAHU: With the idea of ’Let’s do something in our country’, 25 young people from the district started a shoe industry.

The Byas Gandaki shoe and slipper industry became the first branch of the versatile Byas Gandaki company.

Manoj Raut, general manager of industry, said the industry was brought into operation by purchasing two land ropanis from Chure Kholsi of Byas-4 municipality.

According to him, the industry currently produces 500 to 700 pairs of shoes and slippers per day.

Products made in the industry are sold in different market areas of Tanahu, Gorkha and Lamjung.

The industry was put into operation at a cost of around Rs. 20 million. He said: “About 20,000 products have been produced in the past eight months. Raut said he was encouraged to get his hands on the market within a short period of time.

The shoe sellers are also happy to get the products at a relatively cheaper price than importing them from Kathmandu or Narayagadh.

Due to the growing demand, the industry is struggling to produce goods that meet market demand, Director Raut said.

Company secretary Dayaraj Kattel said there was no weakness in manufactured goods. “We believe that we have succeeded in winning everyone’s hearts with quality and strength,” he said.

The company also operates a commercial poultry and vegetable farm. The president of the company Padma Bahadur Thapa Magar said that 600 locally bred poultry are raised on the farm during the first phase.
